Open

The ability to blog daily seems to have been sucked right out of me over the holidays. They are so very wearisome, the holidays I mean.

My calendar is of no use to me anymore. Though that is not to say that I am done with it. By no means. I have plans for it. Aye, big, framable plans. I do have another calendar. One built for this year, but I dont know that I will use it. It's supposed to hang on the wall, for one thing, and I dont know that I like it. I may give it to my mom instead. It has some Las Vegas casinos on it or something like that.

About half the folk that were slated to go to Shreveport with us for the weekend were not able to make it for various reasons. It would have been groovy if they had made it, but we had a pretty good weekend anyway.

I'm back at work now, having left Zero at his chemo session for the afternoon. The doctor said the tumor appears to have diminished in size significantly. That is good news. And he's now halfway through the chemo. Just three more treatments, and some radiation, which might give him a nice tan just in time for Summer.

The worst part about the start of a new year? There is no mandated holiday until Memorial Day. In May. That's a long damn haul. Ugh, suddenly, this year sucks nuts...

Chop

So I did learn that playing poker at a casino is slightly different than at home. The rules are all the same, but you have to pay attention at least part of the time.

I had never heard the term 'chop' before as it related to poker. But essentially, if everyone around the table folds until only the small and big blinds are left, then those two have the option to 'chop' and they just take their money back and the deal passes on and a new hand is dealt. It is rare that it even has a chance to happen (for the first eight people to fold) so when they asked if I wanted to 'chop' I pretty much said "huh?" followed by "no". I went on to win the hand with a flush, but it was a small victory. Given the cards I did have, I probably would have elected to go for the chop if I had known.

I also made a headache for the dealer in one hand. I was using $5 chips to make my big blind calls of $4. Thus getting $1 back if there was no raise. No big deal, it is common to do that. Someone after me went all in for $4 and someone after that went all in for $5. Not paying enough attention, I thought it was a full raise to $8. I liked my cards enough to stay for that, and put in another $3. So did everyone else that wanted to stay in... So the dealer had to make three piles of chips. One for the first guy that could only win his share from his $4 all-in, a second for the woman that was all-in with her $5, and finally a pot for the rest of us. It was kinda funny.

Fortunately, at the casino, you get a new dealer every 30 minutes.

A girl's best friend...

We took a ton of pictures over the holidays. And I had been meaning to put a few of them online since that time. I finally got around to uploading the one that I really meant to put up, the group shot from Zios. It is very similar to the one Red put up just after Christmas, but I think this one is a little better. (obviously, since it was taken with our brand new camera, right?) Anyway, the important thing to note in this picture is Ninsi's diamond pendant. The picture was taken just as the flash went off, and the diamond sparkles mightily. That pic is unmodified. It just flashed that way. Here is just her neck by itself, and here is a slight blow up of it.

And just to break the monotony, here's one of just me and ninsi that I took myself. The pics are pretty much my cop out from blogging for the day, so you best enjoy them. Maybe we'll have some nice fun ones after her bday celebration this weekend.

"Fastest lunch & town"

What does the title mean? I don't know. Ask Ryan's.

Not much to tell now. Im on my way out to the lovely Infomart again. For the second time this week. Will just head home after that.

Birthday party this weekend. Drunkenness may abound. And it may stay hidden in a corner. I'll do my part to see it abounding.

When Ninsi mentioned dinner the other night at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse, she neglected to mention one particular table of other diners. We weren't listening to them, but occassionally overheard snippets of conversation from one lady in particular. She kept talking about "Nationals", and talked a little about being from Tulsa, and her friends from like Nevada. The Tulsa bit caught our ear some, and maybe we did listen a little more closely. Anyway, she kept talking about "nationals" and we wondered what she meant. Finally, they threw out the word 'bowling' and we thought we misheard. Then we heard it again. Apparently, they were in town for some kind of national bowling thing. Id never heard the likes of it. I dont know if they were bowling teachers or combatents. They looked more like chaperones, but talked like players. It was weird. And her credit card was declined a few times. Go PBT!

(that's pro bowlers tour)

Mightier than the sword

Zero's doctor writes slow. But he has a nice pen with which he does it. I have been thinking I need a new fountain pen lately, and finally decided to look online for a bit while I had some time. I found the Fountain Pen Hospital. If you like pens, they have some very, very nice ones. I recommend not looking at the price though. I saw at least one for $14,000+. And it doesn't even have a little digital clock or naked lady on it!

In other news, well, there isn't much other news. People coming in from out of state for the weekend. Ninsi had a party this weekend, and I think it went rather well. Played some pool, played some cards, drank a little bit. I don't think anyone got sick. Which is almost a record or something. At least one person passed out in a lawnchair outside though for a couple hours.

Big company meeting coming up in less than an hour. There is a good chance that it will give me something to bitch about for tomorrow.

Lazy

The Ryan's sign is being changed, but I cannot tell to what. The dude is still futzing around with the other side of it. The other side doesn't necessarily correlate to what I can see though. I did see some of the letters coming down from the other side, and it was obviously something different that what I can see. If it gets changed to something noteworthy, I'll be sure to update.

In the meantime, let's all congratulate Red on her new pen purchase.

Im not reading anything right now, and that really frees up quite a bit of my time in the evenings. Im going to try to use it wisely and keep things in my room more or less organized, and take care of projects I've been putting off for far too long. I suspect that I will soon slip into playing Shadow Hearts: Covenant again, and all the time I should be saving will be sucked into the video game. The game makes you find gay porn (though it never presents it as such, we all know that is what it is).

I also need a haircut, but instead, Im going to start growing a beard I think. maybe next week. It's a plan. You got a better one?

Slice

May play some golf tomorrow. So I went out to the range today at lunch. It was the first time I've even tried to swing a club in about 4 months. So it sucked. And if I play tomorrow, I will suck. Yes, it is a little cool, but definately not too cold, at least in the afternoon.

Haven't posted much this week due to business at work. We had a companywide meeting on Monday so they could annouce to us all that we are to become part of a larger company. I can't say anything more than what has been in press releases, but basically, a larger company has agreed to buy us for cash and stocks. It's only a matter of time now, and then we'll be part of a public company.

We had another meeting yesterday to meet the honchos and some of the other people from the new parent company. Not sure how much things will change.

Other significant news, they are remaking Tron.

But even that pales in significance to the Huygens probe. Godspeed little guy...

My hometown

Mcalester

I know the guy being charactured in the cartoons, and the one for whom the boat is named...

Moving day

It's Monday, and it's late. Today has been busy since I made it to work, and it should continue this way through the week. All of the servers were moved this weekend from the second floor to the fourth floor. There were, of course, a lot of problems that came with that. The major ones have been dealt with finally.

I was exempted from assisting in the move because of prior obligations. Namely the visiting friend from Orlando, and Ninsi's father being in town. It is too late in the day now for me to regal the entire weekend, so it will have to suffice to say that I met the future in-law, played a lot of warhammer, watched some football, and overall, ate too much food.

Network

It seems like it has been some time since I last posted to any degree. I was going to do so yesterday before I left work, but when I went to log in, the website was down. Most of yesterday was spent doing the little things that creep up after a server move.

Today, when I came back from lunch, no one on my floor had any internet access. So that also was a huge deterrent to blogging. I took the time to rearrange the servers in my office and organize the cabling. It was a hella good time, believe me.

Not much else going on that I can drudge up to comment on, except for an email I got yesterday. Some random person found the blogring, and decided it was very lame. They used the opportunity to actually submit an application to the ring using mostly nonsensical characters. Though they did manage to say we (or possibly just me, as I couldn't make sense of the grammar) were lame, and needed to get a life because we were fucking losers. It really cut me to the core. Totally. I can only assume the site was found accidently while seaching for some cock-porn. I can only imagine the anger they felt when they found no such depravity here. Perhaps it is time we all added a little cock-porn to the ring so that future trollers like that will feel more welcome. I am open to other suggestions as well.

Can't spell wedding without WE

I think Ninsi has wedding head to such a degree that she is inserting words into my sentances. Specifically the word 'we'. She *claims* that I said we, but I'm fairly sure I did not. She also continues to change her mind with great frequency about exactly what she wants to do. She is hoping that going to a bridal fair or two this weekend will help her to get some better ideas and solidify plans, but I speculate that it will only give her more options and by the end of Saturday, I will have to give her a Tequila IV to get her settled back down.

In other news, crap at work just keeps popping up. Little things everywhere that just seem to not work for unknown reasons. Interdependancies on machines that have no business being interdependant. It may not wear you out, but it sure as Hell will wear one down. If it was before noon, Id opt for a liquid lunch. Instead, I'll have to make do with dinner.

Coolness

It is often very cold in my office. I feel the cool air blowing on me sometimes. I finally managed to find the thermostat that controls the air for it though. It happens to be in Trucker's office. I'm not sure what else is controlled by it, but Trucker did not think it worked at all. I futzed with it yesterday, and it does indeed work. And does control my office. It may also control the air to one or more of the studios, which means that if I turn it way up when a voice actress is in there doing her bit, she will probably get all hot and sweaty, and have to remove any extraneous clothing. Not that I would ever do that.

When I came back from lunch, I was walking up the stairwell and someone that was going down the stairs, said to me "Hey, did you know there was a hard drive in the freezer?" I didn't know that, so I went to check it out. She was mistaken, there were two hard drives in the freezer. Was it unexpected? Yes. Was it surprising? No.

Ryan's has also finally changed its sign. But it is not worthy of the blog.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to point this out for Jessy. The theory of a large meteorite striking the Earth and causing mass extinction is falling out of favor. Evidence is not supporting it quite so well anymore. A little more.

My Fair Lady

Huzzah to the bridal fair(s)...
Not as bad as it could have been since we bypassed pretty much everything that did not deal with a location.

Oh, since he failed to say anything about it, why don't you all go bug Zero about what the doctor said yesterday during the pre-chemo visit. Don't worry, it's not bad.

Long time readers (all 5 of you) will know that I used to play football after work. An epic bi-weekly gridiron battle known as DragonBowl. The game was on a long hiatus, but begins agin today. Tomorrow, I will probably whine about being old, and sore. Good times to come.

Oh, and for the record, there was no vengence. Sleepwalker was just well past a reasonable time frame. Nigh on two weeks it was.

And something for the ladies: I bought new shoes today. Neener neener.

January 26, 2005

Do I get a turn?

Yes, so the wedding thing is all about the woman/bride. But shouldn't the guy get something out of it too? Like this? Hard to go wrong with that, eh?

So, anyway, yes, I am in pain today. It was difficult getting out of the car when I got home from football. I had stiffened up quite a bit during the half hour drive home. The game was faboo, as usual. Our offense sucked, but thanks to overpowering defense, we managed to stay within a point. No need for details, but for being the eldest on the field, Id say I performed exceptionally well. (TD, int, and a fumble recovery)

Today has rather sucked at work. I did not get to go to lunch since we are supposed to have a meeting with the Director from the new parent company. Lunch is being catered, and I am hoping it is here by 1. It is 5 minutes til that time, and no word yet. So hungry.

Chimera

I'll post more later, but this was just to good a link to pass up. Maybe with something like this, we can all get that tail or those wings we daydreamed about when we were kids. Animal-Human Hybrids.

I guess it is later. Dreary day. I ache from racquetball, but that is to be expected. I also am getting hungrier than I feel I should be, and that is not expected. Work has been keeping me busy, so there hasn't been much going on. I've been working on cleaning my bedroom in the evenings and I think that is done now. It actually looks clean and neat. I threw away a bunch of old crap, and finally got around to utilizing some bins that I bought for that expressed purpose. I think I will make Ninsi do the same to hers now. :)

Mud

Hope all had a good weekend. Ninsi and I finally had one that was mostly relaxing. Friday evening was poker, and she went to see a movie on Saturday. While she was at the movie, I decided to get her car unstuck from the mud in the driveway. When she came home Friday night, she thought to pull up far enough to allow the others coming over for poker room to park. But changed her mind part way, and just stopped right in the big mud bog left when the plumbers tore up the asphalt a couple weeks ago. She was immediately, irrevocably, stuck. Her two driver side tires were on asphalt, but the passenger side were in mud, and the front one promptly sank about 6 inches deep. I tried getting it out briefly on Friday, but it only got worse, so Saturday, when she left, I decided to work on it again. The right side of the car was only about 2 inches off the ground where the front had sank down so much.

I'll spare the details, but it involved me using two jacks at once, getting mud everywhere, and took about an hour and a half. And let me tell you, you haven't experienced fun until you've tried jacking a car up onto two jacks at once when it is up to the axle nearly in mud.

Sunday was spent working on costumes for the Valentine's day party. My hat is done. I just have to get the rest of it together now.

Oh, and when we played football last week, a couple girls from work came to watch, and one took pictures and a few videos. You can access those here. The videos are kinda fun, but the pictures don't have much action in them.
