mown

Ugh, ive been so not good about upkeeping. Must do better. The last week has just been chock full or intelligence and witticism. But, I failed to blog it, and it is all gone now.

I did however, finally buy a new lawnmower Saturday night. And I dont want you kids telling me you had more fun with your weekend, because it really can't get any better than lawnmower buying. Really. Why, not even the Lodge the night before was more fun. Or New Orleans Nights the week before... I keep telling myself these things.

Two such clubs in two weekends is a bit much though. The Squid can say goodbye to any inheritance if I keep that up. Maybe if I win at poker this weekend. Hmm, incentive.

Working still. Mostly. Sort of. It was five weeks before they ever actually gave me something to do. So doing that. Getting back to do ing it now.

crazed?

How do you turn down a job that would pay you on the order of 20k more than you make now?

When you are faced with such a decision, ask me. I'll tell you how I did it.

---

In other news, Reptile was laid off from his job today. He made it to work this morning, and apparently won the "Who gets laid off" lotto. His reaction was similar to mine when I was laid off back in May. In that he was more relieved than anything. Now he can actively hunt for a job instead of having "car trouble" all the time or taking sick days.

And so the curse that seems to affect our little group is still in effect. That being the curse that maintains that one of us must always be unemployed. It goes back a while. When Khuul found a job, Demi was laid off. Elanna was laid off when Demi found one. There was a brief shining time when everyone was employed, and then both Demi and myself were laid off. I found a job over a month ago. Demi started a new on this Tuesday. Reptile was laid off today. It's just a little odd.

onion

I made soup the other night. Right good soup, it is. Went to the grocery store and bought a few ingredients beforehand, among them, an onion. So when I got home, I started dicing the onion, and I swear it must have been about the most powerful onion ever. My eyes, especially the right, burned for a solid twenty minutes after I finished cutting it. I couldn't see at all. I actually only diced half by hand before Ninsi reminded me that we have a food chopper. It worked much better. It would have been nice if I could have seen what I was dicing, but it was a long time before i could see again.

But the soup is gud.

wet golf

Weekend is done. Finally got to play golf for the first time since the end of March. And of course, it rained. But for the most part, it did not rain until we were on the last 4 holes or so. It wasn't too bad, mostly. Reptile shot incredibly well (for us) on the front nine, then fell apart a little on the back. He beat me by 14 strokes on the front, but was 2 worse than me on the back. And 12 worse than his own front. The clubs became a little to difficult to hold towards the end. Hard to get a good grip. But, I enjoyed it. Only the third time all year that Ive managed to play.

Not a lot else going on. Finally got around to ordering a new cover for the hot tub. So that should be in soon, just in time for the winter months. Actually working at work now, which is quite a change from the first month I was here. And supposed to play racquetball today for the first time in a couple years. Hopefully we'll start doing it at least once a week. Maybe twice.

$15 per head

I have some trash in the back yard. Mostly lumber from the deck. I will soon have more. Lumber from the fence. It will be a lot of stuff that the trash men will not pick up. In Grand Prairie, they will pick up large household appliances, such as washers and dryers, but not lumber. So I will have to dispose of it myself. Which probably means renting a truck and hauling it off to the city dump. I was hoping to wait until after I redid the whole fence and make one trip, but I think i will probably have enough that 2-3 trips may be required.

I went to the website for the city dump, and was looking at what they charge. By and large, you can dump most stuff free, once a month. Some things, such as tires, have a per item price, $1 to $10 depending on the size of the tire. What I was not expecting, though, was this line:
Livestock - $15 per animal

Presumably that means dead. But I really never thought about people taking their dead cow to the dump for disposal. And it costs quite a bit. I mean, if aliens come down and wipe out half your herd, you're going to have a pay a bundle to dump them at the dump.

Dear God

What did I do to deserve this?

"ninsianna: surprisingly enough i have absolutley no desire for chili"

October 24, 2006

tis the season

for chili.
Personally, I think it's alawys chili season. I was educating Ninsi just last night on how chili could be the key to world peace. She said it would be key to worldwide gassiness and flatulence. That would play a part in the peace. Because think about it, if everyone ate a big bowl of chili, they would then have to eventually go to the bathroom. And two things you can't make while actually taking a poo are war, and babies. That's my theory. It's a winner.

Cleaned up the back yard quite a bit over the weekend. Now it's time to tear down the old fence, and build up a new one. Just got to get Donut no the ball so we can do it before the ground freezes...

marked

I broke down and bought a paintball gun the other day. Or 'marker' as they call them so as to reduce the image of it being a violent outing. I understand that. People hear the word 'gun' and think something violent. People hear you talking about a 'marker' and think you are sniffing your dry-erase markers. Ive wanted one for a while, and hopefully will be playing ocassionally now. We're supposed to play in mid-Nov. And of course, I can also use it on neighborhood dogs that are running around. Or maybe the neighbor's dog that barks at 3am. Yes, the marker has a ton of uses. Though, most of them involve shooting something, but that's okay.

Two months til Christmas. I need to start thinking about gifts. Also got the bill for property taxes. That always makes Christmas a little less shiny.

Animal crossing

Halloween weekend is past now. It was alright. Went to a couple parties. Dressed up as some undead zombie homeless wolfman, I think. Ninsi was a very stylish Little Bo Beep. Sunday, I did absolutely nothing but watch football. It was a good day.

On my way into work on Friday, I was driving up one of the neighborhood streets, and had to come to a near full stop in the middle of the road because a turkey was walking across it slowly. It looked like a wild turkey, though I suppose it could have actually have been someone's pet, but it was in the middle of the road, causing the large dog behind the fence to go completely nutty.

I assume it's currently open season on turkey in Texas, especially if I had hit it with my car, but I didnt have the desire to clean a turkey at 8 am. That night, though, as Ninsi and i were on are way home, there was a very slow moving skunk crossing the road. I almost hit it as well. I probably would have, if I hadn't realized at the last moment that it was a skunk.
