Cotton

Today is our second anniversary. The traditional gift for the 2nd year is cotton. It's not easy to find things that are worth giving, and also are fully cotton. Next year is leather. Woot! Ninsi and I are going out for a nice dinner tonight, and that will be the only thing we officially do for the anniversary. This weekend, we will be having our traditional April party, which encompasses both my birthday this year, and our annual wedding/anniversary celebration.

Luna came out surgery yesterday and is doing just fine. The vet has recommend that we put her on a prescription dog food that would help to prevent the future formation of stones in her bladder. We will probably do that. Maybe. Im actually thinking we may mix the prescription with their normal food. Since the prescription food costs roughly double what their normal food does.

We have a copy of the X-ray showing the stone. I will post it later when I get a chance. Im not able to upload anything right now. It's a lemon sized stone. Not much smaller than the bladder itself. I'll try to get it up by this weekend.

x-ray

Here's the x-ray of Luna. The stone is fairly obvious...

Ancient & Aged

Yesterday was my birthday. Saturday we had a party to celebrate my birthday as well as our second anniversary. I think it went fairly well. I think I have already outlived the current life expectancy for someone in Zimbabwe. But they are seriously messed up right now.

Reptile and I went out last night to a club for a while. Stayed out a little past one and got up this morning to come on in to work. It is not as easy as it once was to get up after staying out. Though, I suppose it is something that I can still do it at all. "Sweet Dreams" was playing at one point at the club, and some guy came up to Reptile and me and asked us who was singing it. I told him it was the Eurythmics, Annie Lennox. And he went away. Im guessing he asked us because we were the only ones that looked old enough to remember when the song came out.

The worst part about going out to a club is the kids can make you feel real old, real quick.

Asunder

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night (2:45 am) because I was too warm. I had been off and on, but this time I could not quite get back to sleep. So I lay there in bed debating getting up to turn the A/C down a bit. While I was thinking about it, the heavens were suddenly rent asunder and a torrent of rain and wind was unleashed.

It was immediate. There was no little rain and some wind building up. It went straight to a total downpour. So I got up and went downstairs and realized the A/C was not on at all. Which would help explain why I was hot. I turned on the TV to check the weather and we had no signal because of the storm. But, we still had internet, so I checked the weather there. Grand Prairie was under a Tornado Warning, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and a Flash Flood Warning. All at once. And the radar showed an ugly red slash crossing all of D/FW.

It was a good rain. And a few tree limbs were blown off here at work. Some full trees uprooted elsewhere in Dallas. The biggest thing it did to us was probably give life to more dandelions that I will have to pull up later.

Frosty

Last Spring, the weather was really nice. In March, it was warm and sunny, so in late in the month, last year, I planted some tomatoes, and some herbs and spices. A week later, the temperature dropped drastically and the resulting frost nearly killed everything thing. My vegetables never recovered.

This year, I waited a bit longer to do the planting. I did it just this past weekend. A full three weeks later than I planted anything last year. And again, the weather has been nice enough for long enough that planting seemed to be in order.

This morning, there was frost on my windshield.

I dont know if it got cold enough to harm my new plants, but it is seriously annoying to plant things only to have it freeze a couple days later. I may have to give up trying to grow anything if this trend continues.

Casted

Ninsi was late getting home yesterday. She had a 5pm appointment with a doctor. When she did finally make it home, around 7pm, her right hand was in a cast. Her right wrist, actually, and most of her thumb.

The thumb had been bothering her for about a month now, and last week she went to get it X-rayed. Nothing was broken, so she went to the specialist yesterday and was declared to have a torn ligament that needed to remain stationary for at least a month. Hence, the cast. She's right-handed, of course, so it will be an annoying month for her while she tried to make do with the less coordinated left hand and no opposable joint on the right.

Overall, though, that is not too bad. I can say that because I have had a cast over about 70% of my body. So I speak from experience. I may not get hurt often, but when I do, I do it up right...

lax

Ive been lax about updating.
It's just that sooo much has been going on that I barely have time to put anything up here.
And that's a complete lie. There has been absolutely nothing going on. I work, I go home, and I mess around in the yard. And there's not much else to it.

I did catch Luna doing something this weekend that we usually blame Barley for. She got some stuff out of the recycle bin and took it outside. We'd always thought that only Barley did that. Now, we can't be sure that it wasnt Luna all along. At least she has sense enough to look forlorn when you chastise her for doing something wrong. Barley doesnt really seem to care.

Nothing going on this weekend either. Next weekend, Ill be driving up to OK to visit the Squid. And the week after that, Ninsi will be flying up for Mother's Day. And that is pretty much all we have planned until June, I think.

And counting

It's been a long fucking day at work. And still four hours to go. I think it has seemed especially long because I have not really slept the past two nights. I mean, I've gotten sleep. But I have woken up about a dozen times each night.

And, I either have a head cold, or Ive developed allergies because my nose has been running since yesterday morning. I'd much rather have a cold than allergies.

My plan, for as soon as I get home, is to lay down, and try to take a nap. Im just tired. After the nap, I think will be time for the hot tub. Unless it decides to rain. Probably better than Im allergic or sickly this weekend though, since next Friday I'll be making the drive up to OK for the weekend.

Four hours and counting til nap.

Fevered

I may have mentioned Friday that I wasn't feeling real swell. When I finally made it home after work, I took my temperature and it was a pleasant 100.6. That went a long way towards explaining how I felt. I was not able to actually take a nap though. Just couldnt get to sleep. Which is not odd. Naps don't go well with me. So, mostly, I did nothing Friday. Laid around, and went to bed about midnight. Ninsi gave me a muscle relaxer and I finally slept. Got a solid six hours before waking up. I dozed a little after that. But I haven't had six uninterrupted hours of sleep in weeks, so that was nice. I also felt more or less normal by Saturday morning. Good enough to mow the yard, anyway.

Ninsi and I drove down to the lake for a while, just to check it out. We may try to go out there sometime this Summer. Either for a picnic or just to hang out. Overall, a nice, but not exciting day. We had dinner with Zero Saturday night, and when we got home, the dogs did not greet us at the door. That always raises an instant red flag. If they arent at the door, something is going on, generally, or they have escaped the back yard.

I have put a whole lot of effort into making the backyard fairly escape proof, but that doesnt mean they couldnt manage it if they tried. And someone had mowed the empty lot next to us that afternoon, so the dogs had been riled up by that as well. Anyway, it turns out the dogs were in the backyard. Barley was staring at Luna, and Luna was standing guard over her latest kill. Apparently, when they were mowing the empty lot, they stirred up some rabbits. And at least one managed to get into our back yard. It was probably a lot easier to get in that it would be to get back out. There wasn't any fur left on the rabbit's head, and not much left on it's belly. It was pretty nasty looking, so I tossed it over the fence. Otherwise the dogs would have fought over it all night.

I've lost count of the woodland creatures Luna has now killed.

Thirds

Last day of April today. And I expect the next two thirds to go about the same as this one. Though, we will probably get out of the house a little more in the middle. Maybe go down the river sometime in June. Before it gets too hot.

And in August we're going back to Atlanta for DragonCon. Haven't been in a couple years, so it will be nice to get back. They've expanded from two, to four, hotels now. So it is still growing. Possibly to an annoying point.

My aunt passed away yesterday. That is my dad's second sibling, and my fourth relative to pass away since February. Not how one really wants to remember the their Spring.

Ninsi's dad is in town tonight, so we will be having dinner with him. That's about the only thing we have going on out of the ordinary for a while. I may start doing some extra work. Not for pay or anything, but some stuff that they need done. If nothing else, it will look good for me to do it when it comes time again for me to ask for a raise. And as long as they have work for me to do, then I dont have to worry quite so much about being let go while the economy mucks about for a while longer.

Now, if I can just get my tomoatoes to grow, I'll be doing well.
